Vikasganga Samajsevi Sanstha, Ghatanji established in 1996, is a non-government, non-political, not-for-profit organization, registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act (1950), Societies Registration Act (1860), and Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act. It is receiving funds from the CSR of distinguished Trusts, national and international funding agencies for its rural/ tribal poverty reduction programs centered around Natural Resources Management. Its main objectives are to improve living conditions of rural and tribal people by developing environmentally sound land and water resources programs; improving the environment and eco-system; improving the socio-economic status of rural people and striving for their overall development. This is promoted by facilitating the growth of community-based institutions, farmers’ producer companies that support and sustain the Natural Resources Management programs.
The operational area is classified as drought-prone and is predominated by tribal and rural poor representing the poorest section of our society. The operational area is presently spread across seven districts of the Vidarbha region, covering approximately 657 villages of 37 blocks. Vikasganga strongly believes that no rural development programs can be succeeded without the active participation of the community, therefore; their active participation is sought in each of the programs. It works for child education, women’s development and rescues poor farmers from the vicious circle of agrarian crisis. Being agriculture, the main source of livelihood concept of agriculture development is merely a dream without the availability of water for irrigation. Therefore, its main stress is on rainwater harvesting for the availability of abundant water for drinking as well as irrigation purposes. The organization has been at a great scale imparting training, capacity building, and extending technical inputs to large numbers of farmers and self-help groups.
We are committed to the promotion of sustainable development initiatives like NRM, Education etc., in response to the needs of underrepresented and marginalized sectors of society ensuring land to be capable of sustaining its population with poor communities living with dignity, justice, socio-economic equality and peaceful co-existence among various sections of society.
